geloven
believe (the main action at the end of the sentence)
/ɣəˈloːvə(n)/verb
How it is spelled and how it sounds
In Dutch, a single 'o' in an open syllable (ge-lo-ven) is pronounced long /oː/. In a closed syllable (geloof), the 'o' must be doubled to keep the long sound, and final 'v' always devoiced to 'f'.

In connected speech
In connected speech, 'ik geloof' (/ɪk xəˈloːf/) often merges the /k/ and /x/ into a single fricative sound [ɪxəˈloːf], and the final /f/ in 'geloof ik' re-voices to [v] before the vowel ([xəˈloːvɪk]).
